RPZD Valve Replacement at RAAFA Merriwa
Our team recently carried out an RPZD valve replacement for the RAAFA Merriwa community, ensuring their water systems remain safe, compliant, and functioning at their best. During routine backflow testing, our team identified significant issues with two of their Reduced Pressure Zone Devices (RPZDs), leading us to recommend—and complete—a full replacement.
What Is an RPZD Valve and Why Is It Important?
An RPZD valve is a critical backflow prevention device designed to stop contaminated water from flowing back into the clean water supply. It features two internal check valves and a relief zone, which activates if pressure conditions become unsafe. This ensures that any potential contaminants from irrigation, fire services, or commercial plumbing systems cannot enter the drinking water network. In environments such as retirement communities, where residents rely on safe, clean water every day, RPZD valves provide essential protection for both health and compliance.
What We Found at RAAFA Merriwa
Upon inspection, we discovered significant internal rusting within both RPZDs. Pieces of rust had broken away and become trapped in the seals, damaging the valve seating and preventing proper operation. This resulted in consistent failures during mandatory testing. Because the valves were 11 years old, they had reached the end of their serviceable life. Ongoing repairs would have been costly and unreliable, making replacement the most practical and cost-effective solution.
Our Solution: Professional RPZD Valve Replacement
To restore system reliability, we installed two new high-quality RPZD valves, ensuring robust backflow protection and easier future maintenance. The upgrade provides long-term peace of mind for the RAAFA Merriwa community.
